Ivanka Trump’s call to end white supremacy got the response you’d expect

In a new low for the gun lobby of the USA, the country suffered two mass shootings in one day, one in El Paso, Texas, and the other a few hours later in Dayton, Ohio. After the first shooting, Donald Trump took to Twitter to express his feelings on the matter, tweeting this message:

“Today’s shooting in El Paso, Texas, was not only tragic, it was an act of cowardice. I know that I stand with everyone in this Country to condemn today’s hateful act. There are no reasons or excuses that will ever justify killing innocent people.

Melania and I send our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the great people of Texas.”

He was roundly criticised, with accusations of hypocrisy and fuelling the kind of hatred that leads to these terrible events.

Of course, his daughter, Ivanka, also wanted to make a public condemnation, and hers was a little more specific in apportioning blame.

Once the combination of astonishment and laughter had died down, the obvious takedowns came rolling in, many of them saying one thing:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

Human rights campaigner, Charlotte Clymer, had the same comeback, but her phrasing was more creative.

And that’s the mic drop moment we all craved.
