Tory MP Johnny Mercer defended Mark Field and the takedowns were brutal and necessary
Most people, it appears, were shocked to see Mark Field grab and manhandle a woman climate change protestor at a dinner at London’s Mansion House last night.
Not Tory MP Johnny Mercer – you might remember him from when he appeared on Have I Got News For You – who weighed into the debate before Field was suspended as a government minister today.
Honestly? Try being in our shoes in the current environment.
He panicked, he’s not trained in restraint and arrest, and if you think this is ‘serious violence’, you may need to recalibrate your sensitivities. Calm down, move on, and be thankful this wasn’t worse. https://t.co/ALMQMDh4Ya

And the takedowns were brutal and necessary.

"What are you thankful for today?"
"Well I'm thankful that though a member of the government did physically assault a peaceful protestor, it wasn't as an extreme assault as it could have been"— James Felton (@JimMFelton) June 21, 2019

A peaceful woman protester in a sash was aggressively manhandled, by her neck from a room by a Member of Parliament and you think she posed a threat? This is supposed to be an advanced western nation – not a thugocracy. https://t.co/zAwnluLUG8

Women across the world are being shoved into walls, intimidated and grabbed around the neck so we don't need to imagine your 'environment'.
I can't ever imagine being entitled ennough to be with heavy handed with anyone who wasn't an immediate threat. Block her, don't hurt her. https://t.co/qjbJcP3mVc

"he’s not trained in restraint and arrest"
Then he shouldn't attempt it.— Andy Ryan (@ItsAndyRyan) June 21, 2019

The woman attacked did nothing to pose a physical threat, only a political one. When political threats are answered with physical violence the people need to get new politicians.
NOTHING about the "current environment" can justify this and defending him is collusion.

If a man can be charged and face court for throwing a milkshake this man should face charges for this also.

Poor the Conservative party. Try being in their shoes at the moment. This feels like an am-dram version of Nicholson’s speech in A Few Good Men.”I would rather you just said ‘thank you’, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a dinner invitation, and stand a post” https://t.co/gzUjxVkSZQ

What with this and your support for the homophobic casually racist candidate for PM, you’re really showing us who you are Johnny.
And to think I thought you were a decent man.
