As E.ON becomes the latest company in the energy sector to declare record-breaking profits in the billions, more households have already fallen into fuel poverty, with at least one woman selling her electrical appliances to find the money to cover bills.

Some politicians, economists and the public have been criticising the government for failing to do something immediately to limit the ongoing damage as the price cap continues to rise.
