26 scathing downvotes for the BBC’s shambolic Tory leadership debate

In what Brenda from Bristol might describe as “Not another one!“, the prime ministerial candidates debated each other under the watchful eye of Sophie Raworth, before an audience of Conservative voters.

With just an hour available, no topic was discussed in depth, but the pair argued about their economic plans, tried to present themselves as ordinary people, and scored Boris Johnson out of 10 for his prime ministerial chops.

Boris wasn’t the only b-word that saw them play fast and loose with the facts.

Just days after parts of the UK were on fire, neither had a handle on climate change.

To the relief of the nation, they touched on the really big question – whether Liz Truss agreed with Nadine Dorries that her £4.50 Claire’s Accessories earrings made her a more suitable candidate than Rishi Sunak’s designer suits do.

Those brave souls who managed to endure the spectacle had plenty to say about it.
