The replies to this maths problem will have you facepalming into next week

Over on r/facepalm, a Redditor named u/3KidsInTheTrenchCoat has shared something that definitely fits the bill, in the shape of what appears to be a fairly straightforward maths question.

They added –

I expected some people to get the wrong answer, I didn’t expect it to be nearly 1/3 of them. I had to stop looking when it went from funny to sad to scary.

It seems that maths is hard. Very, very hard.

Whatever you’re thinking now, a Redditor probably thought it too – and these were the top responses.

Them: “44.”

Me, scrolling: “at least they didn’t say 80.”

Next slide: “80.”

Me: “oh, fuck…”

Them: “96.”

Me: “ok, we need a world flood, a real one this time.”

I appreciate the ones saying 80. They knew what they were doing.
Aporkalypse_Sow

I’m going with ellevendy seven.

My favorite is the utmost confidence in their wrong answers.

u/EvErYLeGaLvOtE had a scathing assessment.

The explanations are Lauren Boebert level.

Steady on! They’re not that bad.

For those who want to see the workings –

2 x 2 = 4, so the big sister is 2 years older.
When the questioner is 40, the sister is 42.

Life, the universe and everything.
