Rishi Sunak is getting a publicly-funded enquiry into who grassed up his non-dom wife

The row about Rishi Sunak’s wife, Akshata Murty’s non-dom tax status, which became a row about both of their tax statuses after it emerged that the couple had recently held green cards, has been taking up column inches against stiff competition.

It’s also been firmly in Twitter’s gaze.

The beleaguered chancellor attempted to shove the matter into the black hole of Whitehall enquiries.

But he went a step further, demanding to know how his family’s tax arrangements had made it into the public domain in the first place.

Some people thought a certain tatty-headed self-promoter might have thrown his political opponent under the bus of public opinion, others that Sunak had shot himself in the foot by throwing more talking points into the mix – but all were certain he deserved to be dragged for it.
