Rishi Sunak’s family tax woes grow with the suggestion he and his wife recently had US green cards

Rishi Sunak’s fall from grace currently resembles Wile E. Coyote running off a cliff.

For quite a large portion of time between the start of the furlough policy to the beginning of this year, he had been touted for the top political job in the UK. Not getting the Marr slot on Sunday, but becoming the prime minister.

Swanned off on holiday to his mansion in California as British residents decided whether to heat their homes or have a meal.

But it’s the business affairs of his billionaire wife, Akshata Murty, that have really turned up the heat.

At first, it was her multi-million pound stake in an Indian company still operating in Russia, which he suggested people should simply not mention.

When it emerged that Ms Murty had non-dom status, drastically slashing the amount of tax she pays in the UK, the scrutiny intensified.

There have been suggestions that Downing Street insiders might have leaked information about the chancellor’s wife, simply to ruin his chances of challenging the PM.

A new revelation, courtesy of Sky News, claims that for at least part of his tenure as Chancellor of the Exchequer, both Sunak and Murty had green cards, which are issued to permanent residents of the US and require taxes to be paid in that country.
