Jimmy Carr’s vaccine joke was given a booster shot by the people it was about
Jimmy Carr’s stand-up special, His Dark Material, is likely to be a festive favourite when it lands on Netflix on Christmas Day. To drum up interest, he has been sharing a clip on his social media accounts, including TikTok.
@jimmycarr JIMMY CARR: HIS DARK MATERIAL My new stand up special, launching on @Netflix 25 December.
No prizes for guessing how some people took the joke.
Not all TikTok users came with a side order of tinfoil hat, however.
“I don’t know what’s funnier. The joke, or people commenting they’ll no longer watch him cos of a vaccine joke.”
philridley
“This must be confusing for them. They want “freedom” and “free speech” but not when Jimmy Carr offends them? Love it.”
killarooney
When he posted the clip on Twitter, it wound up even more anti-vaxxers or vaccine hesitants – because the distinction is going to make a world of difference to the virus.
Utterly Disgusted at this!
He’s gonna lose a lot of fans from this.
Everyone is entitled to their own views but in his influential position he is responsible for influencing so many and his polarised views completely to one side, Alienate so many— Alex Reid (@AlexReid) November 29, 2021
Ooh bullying people for medical decisions. Is he calling out people with STDs in the audience next week?

It’s called informed consent and freedom of choice which is what we’re supposed to have in a free society. Demonising people for not doing what you say or insisting they have to do something…well we used to call that fascism. Oh that old thing fascism

Both the joke and the reactions caused much hilarity.
Dear dense people, ranting incoherently at Jimmy Carr for calling you dense isn't helping your case pic.twitter.com/nAny736s5Q

I've just seen someone tweeting about Jimmy Carr's anti-vaxxer joke, saying: "I wonder how much they are paying him?".
THEY! pic.twitter.com/bfAxZpD7L2

The reaction was almost better than the joke – almost.
even better than Jimmy Carr's joke about #antivaxxers slapping themselves in the face is the furious reaction of antivaxxers to the joke about slapping themselves in the face

It certainly amplified the message.
