Brexit hardman Steve Baker thinks the mask mandate is Hell – 12 devilishly good clapbacks

Although new rules mandating the wearing of face coverings in shops and public transport in England came into force at 4 am on Tuesday, it wasn’t until the afternoon that MPs voted on the measure.

At a glance, you might have thought it would get a very rough ride from the Conservative side of the House.

But it passed by 434 to 23, with most dissenters abstaining, rather than fully opposing the motion.

That doesn’t mean to say that there were no bumps in the road, with Covid Recovery Group (CRG) members Sir Graham Brady, Mark Harper and Dr Ben Spencer – who took time out of his busy schedule of coughing into his hands – among those opposing the move.

Fellow CRG member and Brexit hardman, Steve Baker, took a very dim view of the government’s actions.

‘This is a fundamental choice, I would say, between heading towards Heaven and heading towards Hell.’

Here endeth the lesson. Tweeters weren’t subscribing to his religious fervour.
