Melania Trump’s Christmas decorations video works far too well as The Shining

As a symbol of the nation, the Christmas decorations at the White House have to convey a broader message of patriotism or hope or an allegory for the end of days, or something. At least that’s how it’s seemed over the last couple of years when they have been unveiled by Melania Trump.

In 2017, she revealed this haunted landscape.

In 2018, she channelled the red weed from War of the Worlds.

This year, she clearly tried to avoid anything too obviously terrifying.

It didn’t work.

The horror aesthetic was so strong, it inspired Richard Littler, the creator of Scarfolk, to do this:

Absolutely chilling, yet still more wholesome than her husband’s policies and behaviour.
