This heartwarming note to a not-yet-out gay son wins the Dad of the Year award

When a dad overheard his son telling his friend – possibly his boyfriend – that he planned to come out, he decided to help things along with a note, and it gets you right in the feels.

It’s slightly tricky to read, so here’s the transcript.

Nate,

I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I’ve known you were gay since you were six. I’ve loved you since you were born. – Dad

P.S. Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.

We particularly like the gently humorous “We are out, like you now.”

As Reddit user, Kuchi_Kopi_number2 commented,

“It wouldn’t be a note from Dad without a dad joke”

Here are a few other comments we felt captured the mood perfectly.

“This brings a small bit of warmth to my cold dead heart”

“Precious. I love this dad!”

“That’s really awesome! I hope more parents will become more like this Dad.”

“Love how he knew since the kid was 6, but didn’t say anything about it until they were ready to come out themselves. Real dad power move right there”

And, because even cool parents are still parents …

“We know you’re gay, it’s cool. But so help me god if you forget the OJ and Bread…”
