Eddie Mair grilled Nigel Farage about refunding candidates’ fees and it’s essential listening

Anybody wishing to stand as a candidate for the Brexit Party in the upcoming general election was required to pay a £100 fee for the privilege of being considered. For many of the successful – and now poorer – applicants, Monday brought a massive disappointment when Nigel Farage announced that the Brexit Party would be pulling those candidates standing in constituencies won by the Conservatives in 2017.

Farage’s fellow LBC presenter, Eddie Mair, pressed him on whether he intended to refund those candidates who were summarily put out of the running by his decision.

If you thought Nigel Farage had done a swift U-turn by claiming Boris Johnson’s deal wasn’t a true Brexit last week, before endorsing it this week, it’s worth noting that he started the interview by saying:

“We have an issue with that. We must try and recompense people.”

Before going on to say:

“Of course not!”

in reply to Eddie’s question “Are you going to give them their money back?”

You know what they say …seventy seconds is a long time in politics.
