11 condemnations of Jacob Rees-Mogg’s shameful Grenfell comment
That paragon of empathy and social conscience, Jacob Rees-Mogg has achieved what many thought impossible – a new low. Here he is, telling LBC’s Nick Ferrari that people with common sense would have ignored the Fire Service’s “stay put” advice in Grenfell Tower.
Understandably, relatives of victims have called for Rees-Mogg to apologise for the grossly insensitive and ignorant remark. The news also caused widespread condemnation on Twitter.

Just when you think Jacob Rees Mogg can't possibly get any shittier he goes and blames people who died in a fire for their own deaths because they followed the instructions of the fire brigade whilst terrified.https://t.co/3howlzHzlK

Apparently the reason people burned to death in Grenfell was because they were less clever than Jacob Rees Mogg. https://t.co/kcUXkUctoY

It is shocking for Jacob Rees Mogg to suggest that those who died in the Grenfell Tower fire lacked ‘common sense’.
They were told to stay where they were by the fire service, who were acting on national guidelines. He must apologise.#nastypartyhttps://t.co/jZx4TXlPEL

We’re living in such a bizarre time when right wing politicians try to demonise empathy
It’s gotten to a point where their inhumanity is becoming very evident and they’re not even bothering to hide it

Needless to say, once you’ve set out your stall to deny all responsibility for anything it is only a matter of time before you begin painting yourself into obscene and perverse corners. https://t.co/Pq9K4C5Nac
