John Bercow said no to a vote on the deal and Brexiters were furious – our 7 favourite reactions
Having overseen an “on the nod” vote on Boris Johnson’s EU deal on Saturday, after the government flounced out, the Speaker John Bercow refused Boris Johnson’s attempt to get it put to a full division on Monday, citing ancient parliamentary rules on not revisiting the same point repeatedly.
Here’s how he did it.
The Speaker John Bercow has ruled that the Prime Minister's motion on the Withdrawal Agreement will not be debated today as as it would be "repetitive and disorderly to do so". pic.twitter.com/cozH21CiQb

Brexiters in the House of Commons reacted much as you’d expect them to – by accusing the Speaker of bias and trying to change his mind. Twitter had a few things to say about it all.
1.
“How dare Bercow stop us voting on the deal!” say Brexiters who insist on stopping people voting on the deal. #PeoplesVote

2.
Me: “There is no need for a People’s Vote as I’m sure the public will not have changed their minds in the last three and half years”
Also Me: “How DARE John Bercow deny MPs the chance to vote again on something two days later!”#brexitbarometer

I believe, as are the brexit rules, we are about to see Boris Johnson argue in favour of making people vote on the same thing over and over again until we get the decision he wants.

John Bercow is like a procedural ninja, kicking the arses of MPs who don't seem to understand their own rules and law https://t.co/ClNYD2TltF

Forget Bercow explaining the 400 year old parliamentary laws that mean he has to delay the Brexit vote.
I insist that the BBC show me the thoughts of some beetroot faced old racist in a working man’s club in Barrow instead.

*Ask for a vote in something you know will get turned down
*Get turned down
*Ramp up ‘people vs Parliament’ rhetoric

Conservative leader writer, Tim Stanley – clearly not a fan of Mr Bercow – had this entertainingly scathing description of the Speaker’s style.
Ah Bercow. Like trying to play a fair game of football when the referee not only supports the other side but keeps stopping the game to do an impersonation of Jane Austen.

But Twitter user @DavidWho33 had this fairly accurate depiction of his conduct in the House.
