A bride banned her parents from her wedding after they insulted her autistic fiance and the entire internet was on her side

You might already be familiar with the subReddit ‘Am I The Asshole’ (arsehole, if you prefer) in which people share their stories just to make sure they did the right thing.

Occasionally – quite often in fact – it turns out they did the wrong thing. But not in this case, the story of a bride-to-be who decided to exclude her parents from her wedding after they insulted her autistic fiancé.

Her story went viral and this is what Redditor clemthecat had to say.

And here are just a few of the things people had to say in response.

MyNameIsKanya: ‘”family is family” is the biggest pile of bullshit unleashed on humanity in one sentence. If they can’t respect YOU or YOUR SPOUSE, don’t invite them to your special day.’

subsetsum: ‘When is it ok to say you won’t put up with it anymore? Right now. It’s your choice. You don’t need anyone’s permission. I think it’s great you are standing up for what you want and your parents are out of line. NTA.’

twowhistleblasts: ‘ESH. Your parents are major assholes. Though I don’t think being on the spectrum is an excuse to do and say whatever without having to deal with consequences. People may be offended by incorrect social cues, and if that happens, maybe those people do deserve apologies. But your parents are way past that. They’ve chosen to treat you this way and side against you. Unfortunately, they don’t deserve to be in your life.’
