This Boris Johnson speech on the NI border hasn’t aged well
Although no text has been officially published, the ubiquitous leaks report that the deal within touching distance between the EU and the UK involves a highly complicated system whereby Northern Ireland will have different customs rules to the rest of the UK, avoiding checks along the border in Ireland. That’s probably not going to fly with the DUP anyway, but it makes this Boris Johnson speech from July 2019 quite an awkward watch.
“Under no circumstances… will I allow the EU or anyone else to create any kind of division down the Irish Sea." @BorisJohnson tells @NIConservative #ToryLeadeshipContest in July 2019pic.twitter.com/qbvJeFSPaw

Well, that aged well. Here’s what people have been saying about Boris Johnson’s truly shocking apparent lack of integrity.
Where we’re at:
Prime Minister to accept border down Irish Sea which "no British Prime Minister could accept” according to previous Prime Minister whose deal was rejected as too weak by present Prime Minister who’s now accepting a worse deal. https://t.co/tXNjIlNhGe— David Schneider (@davidschneider) October 15, 2019
Tell me how anyone could ever believe a word this man says.

And here he is, doubling down on his dedication to the DUP’s vision of a Northern Irish Brexit at their party conference.

Best-selling author, James Felton summed up the situation regarding Boris Johnson’s previous words on the issue – in fact, on most issues.
Honestly every speech of this whole mess could be titled "A Big List Of Things I'll Go On To Contradict"

It’s a good job he doesn’t have access to the power of high office. Oh …
