Police arrested a man who was dressed as broccoli and the internet made a meal out of it
Among the most recent bunch of climate change activists arrested by police in London was this chap, who’d dressed for the occasion.
Well, that was a first in a long journalistic career. I just filmed police on Oxford Street arrest an @XRebellionUK protester dressed like broccoli. As they cuffed him, he cried “Free the pea!” and held aloft a floret of broccoli like it was the liberty torch. pic.twitter.com/f5KQJqMHjH

He wasn’t even the only vegetable pulled up by the police.
Correction! He said, “Give peace/peas a chance.” The cry of “Free the pea!” went up when THIS @XRebellionUK protester was arrested. pic.twitter.com/ZKqQQCjTQQ

It was hardly a surprise, seeing as they’re both greens. The chance to make vegetable puns was one Twitter was thoroughly incapable of passing up.

"Give peas a chance!" the broccoli floret shouted as he was arrested. It is unclear is he was arrested for a "breach of the peas". Some said it was unfair as he was peas-fully protesting. https://t.co/0MKDi8Fzj8

If you thought Broccoli Man looked familiar, you may have seen him in a more revealing outfit back before Extinction Rebellion was a household name.
Mr Broccoli’s real name is Roland, of the Extinction Rebellion offshoot @RebelsAnimal. They say he was detained under section 14 of the Public Order Act but later released. In April, he and other climate protesters bared their buttocks in the House of Commons.
