Boris Johnson was just totally owned by Irish PM Leo Varadkar and it’s a brutal watch
Boris Johnson is in Dublin today for his first meeting with Irish PM Leo Varadkar since he entered Downing Street.
And their joint press conference was quite the watch, in particular the bit where Varadkar laid out the cold hard truth to his British counterpart.
Ireland's Leo Varadkar warns UK PM Boris Johnson "if there is no deal, it will cause disruption for British and Irish people alike", adding "there's no such thing as a clean break, or just getting it done", when it comes to #Brexithttps://t.co/wf2JSjRlrm pic.twitter.com/oYXguzE6Y1

So THAT’S what it looks like to have a grown-up in charge of your country.
The clip prompted no end of responses on Twitter, of which these are our favourites.
1.
Quite painful to watch. Varadkar conducting himself as a leader and grounding his comments in reality. Johnson looks like a child who won a Willy Wonka ticket to appear alongside him. https://t.co/CbbHSaUE2g

Look at his stupid fucking face throughout this. As facts are calmly laid out. https://t.co/ETjPBmwhoh

The reason I look so uncomfortable is that we failed to anticipate the curve ball that Leo Varadkar would throw by just standing there and blatantly telling the truth. pic.twitter.com/MGnLh559TF

Irish Taoiseach @LeoVaradkar telling Boris Johnson some hard truths about Brexit, to his discomfort.
If only our own government were honest enough also to communicate this clear & blunt reality to the UK public.pic.twitter.com/ZgU2JqgFd5

you can just feel Johnson mouthing "you big girly swot" throughout this. This is what it looks like to have a decent, competent leader tearing strips off our chancer-in-chief. https://t.co/KsDaDvT1PY

Listening to @LeoVaradkar give @BorisJohnson a lesson in Brexit for Dummies is very instructive. He points out the obvious – whenever the UK leaves the EU it will not "get it done." That's when "it" will start, and we will be arguing about Brexit for years to come. https://t.co/mIMGdqzI7c

Our glorious leader/Womble getting schooled by Leo. Not just our Government who won’t be this straight with us, most of the papers gaslighting the people too so that their billionaire owners get the Brexit they crave for their own enrichment. https://t.co/Czk2HYxMEN

Helloooo!!!! British people!!!! Leo Varadkar is on the air waves now, telling you the truth. He'll be followed by your own PM, who will spout utter horseshit to you because he thinks you're all stupid

Leo Varadkar is the luckiest politician alive. Now he gets to look statesman-like by explaining to Boris Johnson that fire is hot.

This is brilliant. At the end LV refers to Ireland as 'your Athena' and BloJo nods and laughs as if he gets what Varadkar is talking about and is in on the joke, but he hasn't and he isn't. That's yer private and Oxbridge education right there. https://t.co/Y572GZTrmQ

Leo Varadkar is very good at this sort of thing. Remember when he did this to Donald Trump?
Trump On Brexit: “It will work out well, with your wall, your border. We have a border situation in the US & you have one over here. But I here it’s going to work out very well.
Varadkar turns to Trump: The main point is that, we want to avoid a border.
