This guy’s ‘free ice cream’ moment prompted people to share their own embarrassing moments – 27 favourites
It started when a chap called Andy Ryan shared the moment he totally embarrassed himself in public and he just can’t forget it.
I was in a park and a lady loudly called out "Anyone who wants an ice cream come over here". I headed over with several others. She handed out ices to them all then asked me "Who are you?". I realised the rest were all her family. 30 years later I still cringe.

And it prompted a whole bunch of people to share their own stories of really embarrassing, humiliating or just plain mistaken things they did in public. And a very fun read it is too.

My aunt wandered into an open air restaurant in Greece, sat down, she had no Greek, they no English. So she pointed at what others were having, they brought her wine and food.
Only when she tried to pay and they refused did she realise she’d just crashed someone’s wedding party.— Johnny Keats (@JohnnyKeats1) August 25, 2019

Seven years ago I got into a taxi and asked to be dropped off three miles away. At the end of the journey when I went to pay, I realised it was not a taxi. I’m still cringing.

My Mum was walking me to school when I was 5 and I saw my friend Trevor up ahead so I ran on to catch up with him, calling out his name.
As I got close I realised it wasn’t him so I just kept on running past, shouting “Trev! Trevor!…”— Frank (@frankspicer) August 25, 2019

Same thing except that I approached my “friend” and pushed him, it turned out to be a stranger with the same backpack and he fell to the ground. I panicked and ran away without a word. I should have apologized or at least explain myself

When I was 7 I was going back to school shopping for new shoes & I saw a pair of shoes next to a box on the floor so I tried them on & walked around in them & this girl looked at me absolutely horrified and told me to give her shoes back

One of my most painful childhood memories was the time I blew out another kid’s candles. I was three & so ashamed years later I actually stole the photo of me crying out of that family’s photo album in the 5th grade & ripped it up & threw it away.

I once genuinely thought this lady with outstretched arms was trying to give me a hug. Afraid that it was someone I knew in the past I went in for the hug and she said “Not you dear” and when I turned I realized her relative was coming behind me. I fled the scene in shame

Hubs went ahead to start the car as I checked out at TJMaxx. I came out and knocked on the passenger side back window to get him to unlock, put all bags & my purse in the back, got into front seat and looked up to see a stranger in the drivers seat of the idling car. Then…

One time I was taking an order for a very beautiful sounding cake when I worked at a bakery and I asked the woman, “whose birthday is it!?” she told me, very sweetly, that it was actually for her young son’s funeral. I wanted to crawl beneath the floor.

My sister was making a peanut butter sandwich when she quickly needed to change my nephew’s diaper. While

Not quite the same, but many years ago when we were all out in the family car, I spotted a sign and asked my dad what range eggs were, and why couldn’t we stop for some if they were free? Many years later he still thought I was pulling his leg.

Once when I was flying I saw that there was a VERY dark patch on the wing that kept growing. I was sure I’d see the flames in a sec. I got up and went to the stewardess, whispering to her about the dark patch. She checked it out, then told me it was part of the plane’s shadow…
