These 21 literary-themed pub name puns should be available on Gindle

There seems to be a rule that certain kinds of establishments contain a pun in their names, so you’ll find hair salons called “a cut above” or florist shops called “Back to the Fuschia”, but pubs aren’t usually on the list. The FT’s political correspondent, Jim Pickard, spotted a bar that had decided to buck the trend and get on that pun train, which it had managed with some style.

It got Jim wondering whether the literary-themed pub-name pun might be an untapped resource.

He even had some suggestions to get the ball rolling.

The combination of talking about alcohol and showing off their bookishness proved too great a temptation, and Jim was swamped with responses, including this clever collection.
