Enjoy Ian Hislop totally owning new Home Sec Priti Patel over her support for capital punishment

Boris Johnson’s first Cabinet took shape today and among his appointments was Priti Patel, who was made Home Secretary.

Among many other things people are pointing out about Priti Patel is that she is the first Home Secretary for 30 years to publicly support hanging.

And her support came under the spotlight on this edition of Question Time where she was totally owned by Private Eye editor, Ian Hislop.

“Ultimate burden of proof” getting its first and only ever airing as a legal concept there,” said @BarristerSecret. “This really is a monumental shitshow.”

“The point is that [having capital punishment] is a deterrent. If you have a strong deterrent…”

“It’s not a deterrent if you kill the wrong people.”
