The number of people who didn’t get this Roger Federer joke took it to a whole new level
Not entirely topical here but in our defence we were watching the cricket and we’ve only just found out that Roger Federer was beaten by Novak Djokovic in a five-set thriller.
Anyway, it’s worth turning back the clock because the brilliant Nick Harvey thought he’d make a joke which even by itself is very funny.
"On the day, Novak was simply too good, able, proficient, adept, fine, accomplished, seasoned, skilful, adroit and gifted." – Roget Federer

But the number of people not getting it, well it just took the whole thing to a whole new level.
This is what happened next.
Roget? Probably explains why he used so many different words I guess?

Err, yeah. That’s the joke.
— Nick Harvey (@mrnickharvey) July 14, 2019
Does Roger want to congratulate Novak or date him?

Read it again.

Egg and my face = in alignment

And you , sir are the complete gentleman. I thought the championship should have been shared!

Extremely humble Roger because you were the best player.

Aaaaaarrrrggghh
— Nick Harvey (@mrnickharvey) July 15, 2019
I don’t think I’ve ever used the word “adroit” before, not sure it even existed. The man is humble, the man is a genius, even when speaking another language.

And on and on it went, quite a few of them deleted by now, until it got to the point when this happened …
Gracious Roger Federer. A shining role model to the young of how great sportsmen should behave. https://t.co/DEzS5oTb3B

… and Nick couldn’t take it anymore.
Oh, god help me. I’ve had so many replies like this. Please re-read. It was a joke.
IT. WAS. A. JOKE. https://t.co/IA1QTEIk1e

Fortunately help was at hand.
I’m here if you need to talk.

*DMs the fuck out of you*
— Nick Harvey (@mrnickharvey) July 14, 2019
This is why I usually try to include a footnote explaining the joke in my tweets.
— Moose Allain Ꙭ (@MooseAllain) July 14, 2019
Someone (seriously) suggested that I should start using a winky face emoji in my tweets to make it clear when I’m joking. I would rather eat my own shit.
