Brexiter Roger Helmer contradicted a Nobel Prize-winning scientist – 8 deservedly savage burns

We suspect it’s quite some time since anybody believed anything said or written by Brexiter Roger Helmer – even his Twitter name claims he’s an MEP, which he is no longer, having resigned amidst rumours of misuse of funds. He recently decided to give everyone the benefit of his considered opinion on a comment made by eminent geneticist and Nobel Laureate, Professor Paul Nurse, with this entirely convincing takedown.

Prof Paul Nurse is saying that scientists see Brexit as “turning our backs not just on Europe, but on the world”. He fears loss of funding and of visiting experts. He is exactly and diametrically wrong. As my old Mother used to say, “You intelligent people have no Common Sense”.

Unfortunately for the UK, the disgraced former Ukipper’s misplaced confidence has no basis in reality.

You are wrong. I worked on shared EU research projects for 14 years. They take the best from across the EU to work on emerging STEM projects to advance work in different fields. If access to EU projects stop, jobs go and brain drain ensues. UK govt won't replace EU funding.
