The UK’s ambassador to the US, Sir Kim Darroch, has resigned after leaked cables revealed revealed that he had told the truth about Donald Trump.

Darroch, you’ll remember, had privately warned that the so-called president was “incompetent”, “inept” and “insecure”.
Trump responded by publicly slagging Darroch off on Twitter, labelling him a ‘pompous fool’ and ‘very stupid’.
Darroch’s position was probably impossible after Johnson didn’t back him last night but British ambassadors around the world are not politicians, nor are they chosen by foreign govts – it matters a lot if we just chuck this convention out of the window without a backwards glance

And these 17 response are all absolutely bang on.
1.
Boris Johnson hates the UK being pushed around by foreign powers. He's going to be fucking livid when he finds out Kim Darroch was forced to quit by a foreign bully, just you wait. Any moment now.

It is shameful that Kim Darroch has effectively been forced out for doing the job that diplomats are appointed to do. Boris Johnson’s failure last night to stand up for him – and stand up to the behaviour of Donald Trump – spoke volumes. https://t.co/Cd3Emwmysn

Sir Kim Darroch to resign, as stating the truth, even when secrecy is intended, continues to be considered a weakness.

So Kim Darroch was forced to quit for telling the truth about the president in private? Is that how this works now?

The pathetic, cynical, cowardly right-wing toad who leaked Darroch’s cables has won their miserable little victory. A committed and capable lifelong public servant has been brought down. I just hope they’re happy with everything else they have now destroyed.

A leak clearly intended to get rid of Darroch. A president who then attacks the UK in the most disrespectful language imaginable. A man about to become PM unwilling to stand up to him. And now this. Doing what we're told when abused.

What a national humiliation. The whole country reduced to excruciating sub-Piers Morgan levels of sycophancy because we’ve turned our backs on our real allies in the European Union. https://t.co/NqDQY5UUob

At no point has anyone questioned the accuracy of Kim Darroch's reporting. Funny that.
