Someone tried to mansplain The Handmaid’s Tale – to the author

Twitter is a natural home to armies of mansplainers, ready to dive headfirst into a woman’s mentions to tell her she’s wrong about everything. Notable mentions go to the guy who mansplained space to an astronaut, and his comrade-in-arms, who mansplained vaginas to a female gynaecologist – which must surely count as a double mansplain.

Joining these two heroes on the roll of honour is @Modbrat, who did this:

Even under normal circumstances, it’s not a great look for a man to chime in on women’s reproductive rights, but there was an added dimension to this comment, because the woman he challenged, Margaret Atwood, wrote The Handmaid’s Tale. She had been responding to an article in the Guardian by Zoe Williams, on the loss of bodily autonomy by women in Alabama.

Twitter users dropped by to give him a heads up.

A lot more simply wanted to take the piss.

Twitter user, Possum B, had an understandable question.

No, Possum B – sadly not.
