London Zoo’s Pride Month celebration is adorable

June is Pride Month and people are flying their rainbow flags wherever they can. Twitter is awash with rainbow emoji, supermarkets are selling rainbow-themed products, and there’s a limited-edition Make America Great Again cap with rainbow stitching – we didn’t say it was all good.

London Zoo’s Pride credentials are pretty good, as they have three pairs of gay penguins, which is where they got the inspiration for their Pride Month celebration.

It brilliantly echoes Stonewall’s campaign against homophobic bullying:

Here’s a little more info about Ronnie and Reggie, from London Zoo’s website.

“Ronnie and Reggie got together in 2014, and famously adopted an egg that was abandoned by another couple a year later. The pair shared parenting duties of their chick, Kyton, until he fledged the nest. They remain as strong as ever and are often found snuggled up in their nest box together.

The duo share their home with 91 other penguins, including fellow same sex couples Nadja and Zimmer and Dev and Martin, as well as one-year-old Rainbow who hatched during Pride celebrations last year and will celebrate her first birthday this weekend.”

Tweeter, Jason Goodwin, summed it up perfectly.
