Trump’s representative got completely owned after saying refugees don’t need soap and toothpaste

The White House has announced that it will challenge a move to free up money to ease conditions for refugees at the southern border; it has surprised nobody, as the Trump administration’s attitude to its southernmost neighbours has been racist and inflammatory. This comment by Sarah Fabian of the Justice Department demonstrates the government’s attitude to the most vulnerable group of migrants – children.

There were thousands of outraged reactions to the clip, including this suggestion from writer Molly Jong Fast.

But the most telling response was this perfect takedown from author Michael Scott Moore, who was held captive by Somali pirates for 977 days.

Let that sink in – Somali pirates had a higher standard of care for captives than the Trump government does for migrant children.

Journalist David Rohde had a similar point to share.

Other people were simply horrified by the whole thing.

If you want to know the facts about Michael’s time in captivity, read his book, The Desert and the Sea. If you want to know the facts about the Trump administration’s treatment of migrant children, don’t expect the President’s favourite news agencies to help you out.
