This woman asked for Swiss army knife advice and was totally unimpressed with this knife maker’s response
Technology journalist and author Holly Brockwell was on the lookout for a proper Swiss army knife so went on Twitter to see if anyone had any tips.
I really, really want a Swiss army knife (a proper @victorinox one). Does anyone have a model they can recommend? It’s for general-purpose thing-doing, I’m not very outdoorsy but love to be overprepared

And this Swiss army knife manufacturer got in touch and it’s fair to say she wasn’t entirely happy with what they had to say.
Here’s what Holly had to say.
I’m sorry but what about my question implied I wanted some teeny-tiny girly thing with nailcare for my handbag? Not impressed @Victorinox, I doubt a man would have got this response pic.twitter.com/tYCEA8gozP

Lots and lots of people agreed.
FFS how patronising, especially that wink 🤮

100%. Was not expecting that after clearly saying I wanted a Swiss army knife, not a pocket nailcare set FFS

Good customer service is not making assumptions, but actually asking questions and listening to the customer to find out what would work for them.

Victorinox’s response is ridiculous. It’s like the used car salesmen that ask me what my favorite color is or show me the vanity mirror. Take note: I did not buy from those salesmen.

But not everyone.
Err if the PR person identify’s as a woman and the nail product is there favourite, I guess they were trying to be being helpful.
— Matt freer (@matt_freer) June 24, 2019
Errrr it’s still really presumptuous, rude and condescending, but thanks for your input random man
— Holly Brockwell 🌈 (@holly) June 24, 2019
I’m sorry I replied, I’m sorry for assuming the brackets meant a personal opinion was being stated not a product being forced upon you. My bad.
— Matt freer (@matt_freer) June 24, 2019
Would they have said that to someone they assumed to be a man, though? Would they? No, really, would they?!

As someone who’s worked in customer service it’s not uncommon to give the customer info on what products you like. They might not be relevant but you want to impart confidence is the brand. So yeah they might also give this opinion to a man.
— Matt freer (@matt_freer) June 24, 2019
As a woman: bullshit.

Last word to Holly.
I am absolutely not engaging with all the men in my mentions telling me I’m “virtue signalling” or this was not a sexist message or whatever the fuck else. When a brand tweets your request for a multitool with comments about nailcare, handbags and a fucking wink, you can comment

And just in case you’re interested …
I’m getting a Leatherman.
