Roger Helmer was once one of the most prominent UKIP MEPs, before going independent and subsequently losing his seat. His time in the spotlight has been punctuated by use of racial slurs, the accusation of misuse of funds, and an outrageously bad understanding of science.

He’s the single-issue Brexiter in a nutshell. Helmer recently came to the defence of right-wing commentator, Tim Montgomerie, who had been engaged in a war of words with MP David Lammy, but his comment only served to show up Helmer’s deep-seated racial bias.
