A US 2020 election hopeful said vaccinations were ‘Orwellian’ and the takedowns were 10/10
We have to confess we weren’t entirely familiar with Marianne Williamson, a candidate to be Democratic nominee in the 2020 presidential election.
But she got our attention after she branded the call to make vaccinations mandatory in the US as ‘Orwellian’.

But we’re not sure she entirely thought this through because, well, here’s Twitter to explain.

Ironic as Orwell died at age only 46 from tuberculosis, a disease that modern medicine has turned into 2.8 cases per 100K vs 45.8 cases per 100K in 1940..

George Orwell, who died at the age of 46 of chronic infectious tuberculosis after treatment with both streptomycin and PAS failed, would likely not respond well to Marianne Williamson’s description of vaccination programs as “Orwellian.” https://t.co/uy3yaRjAzI

Meanwhile in her mind, rejecting facts and engaging in the doublethink necessary to be an anti-vaxxer is somehow NOT Orwellian.
I think this is technically a case of triplethink, and thus the most Orwellian thing of all.— Zoe Samuel (@zoe_samuel) June 20, 2019
Williamson later apologised for her comments and said she misspoke.
‘Public safety must be carefully balanced with the right of individuals to make their own decisions. I am sorry that I made comments which sounded as though I question the validity of life-saving vaccines. That is not my feeling and I realise that I misspoke.’
