Theresa May was called out for hypocrisy over her Windrush Day message – 6 total takedowns
HMT Empire Windrush arrived in Britain on 22nd June 1948, bringing immigrants from the West Indies who had been tempted over with promises of jobs. The date is commemorated as Windrush Day, though the story has long-since turned sour, with revelations of those who made that journey having been denied healthcare, jobs and, in some cases, residency – with a number having been deported under the “hostile environment”.
Theresa May posted this message.
"On this Windrush Day and every day, let us give thanks to those pioneering men and women. They crossed an ocean to build a future for themselves, their communities and the UK, the country that will always be their home." - PM @Theresa_May pic.twitter.com/h71abd2HDi

Although the sentiments seemed sincere at a glance, as Home Secretary, Theresa May had contributed heavily to the hostile environment, including the introduction of vans bearing messages telling immigrants to go home. Twitter called out her hypocrisy in no uncertain terms.

Theresa May introduced the hostile environment policy, which demanded people submit paperwork to prove they were UK citizens to access public services. The Windrush generation weren’t given paperwork, so had no such proof. Because of May, many were deported, some died. The cheek. https://t.co/nAbnjWlpjQ

Imagine having the brassneck and sociopathic disregard for the implications of literally everything you've pursued in the last decade that would allow you to be this duplicitous. This from the woman that came up with the hostile environment. #FuckThisShit https://t.co/mkUwVwPf4Z
