A Republican pollster blamed socialism for a broken lift and this comeback wins takedown of the week
Republican pollster Frank Luntz – not a name, we confess, we’d come across before – was in Austria and the lift wasn’t working.
So he did what any right-minded American conservative would do. He blamed socialism.
I’m at the Hotel Imperial in Vienna, Austria. Almost 200 rooms… But the elevator has been broken for 3 days.
Please don’t bring European-style socialism to America. 🚯 pic.twitter.com/axeygJSoBi

And there was no shortage of very good responses on Twitter.
Is the hotel owned by the government? No.
Is every elevator in every hotel in Vienna not working? No.
Since you've been staying there for three days despite no elevator and when there are hundreds of other hotels in the city, the free market is working just fine in Vienna.

you are in a privately owned 5 star hotel my good dude

Did the hotel physically prevent you from taking your business elsewhere when you checked in and they told you the elevator wasn't working? No.
Did you make the decision to stay there without government coercion? Yes.
100% not socialism, bud. 100% your decision.

Because, as we all know, elevators never go down for extended periods of time in the United States.

I mean, thanks for tagging the hotel in the tweet. It's probably not everyday its management gets to laugh at the utter stupidity of one of its patrons, especially one who I'm sure has been an absolute asshole for three days whining about the broken elevator.

The European-style socialism of … a Marriott hotel?
— Kevin M. Kruse (@KevinMKruse) June 18, 2019
But the best, the very best response came from a person called Adam Smith.
mate you might hate socialism but you're getting publicly owned
— Adam Smith (@adamndsmith) June 18, 2019
10/10!
Under rated tweet.
