People love the takedown of sexist men in the index of this obstetrics textbook
Spotted in the index of the 16th volume of Williams’ Obstetrics (not, we admit, a tome we are overly familiar with).
No joke – in the 16th edition of Williams Obstetrics
“Chauvinism, male, voluminous amounts pg 1 – 1102”
Bravo to the female copy editor who snuck this one in 😂 #true

And just in case that’s tricky to read …
Chauvinism, male, voluminous amounts 1 – 1,102
And you can probably guess how many pages there are in the textbook.
This woman is my new personal hero! (Shero!)

That's the work of an indexer, not a copy editor. I know these things. I'm a professional indexer.

Page 1-1102. I love this so very much 😂

This is amazing on every level

It also prompted people to share examples of said chauvinism and worse.
Gross chauvinism, with no attempt or need to conceal it. The doctor told me during lectures the male professors would intersperse slides of nude women to give the male students a laugh and the female students discomfort and embarrassment.

Recalling such gems from medical school as “a woman with black underwear and nail polish has pelvic inflammatory disease until proven otherwise”

I had to edit this opening sentence of an obstetrics textbook: "Childbirth has occurred since the dawn of man." Couldn't do it. I put my pencil down and walked away.

My mom worked for a GP (not FP, she graduated school at a time where GPs did a one year internship and then set up shop). She (the doctor) gave me an old OB textbook of hers and it included such gems as “fat women are often anovulatory and anovulatory women are often fat”

And should you want to double check …
Love it! How many pages in the book, just out of curiosity?

I’m guessing 1102 before the index pages! 😂😂😂
