Most amazing optical illusion you’ll see this week
This optical illusion went wildly viral because it’s so hard to get your head around. Actually, we still haven’t. See if you can do better.
It was introduced by Chaz Firestone on Twitter like this.
All the balls are the same color — and that color is *brown*! pic.twitter.com/JriPXHnNYR

And here it is.
Yes, the balls really are all the same colour. And yes, they really are all brown.
If you don’t believe it then, well, you weren’t the only one.
That’s amazing. I honestly didn’t believe the guy at first.

but you can see the brown if you focus on 1 ball at a time

Maybe this will help.
That’s amazing. Here is the picture with the color bars made gray where they cross “on top of” the balls, just to show the underlying ball color. pic.twitter.com/clxEDBHMGs

Still not get it? Us neither.
in the same way, oranges look way more orange in orange mesh bags 🙂 pic.twitter.com/2fxFrVcbD5

My 7-yo son instantly said the spheres are all beige. Shocked, I asked him again and he confidently said they’re all light brown, but they have different colour stripes over them.
Does the illusion not work on kids?! Or is he some kind of proto X-man?

My guess is, his eyes are sharper than adult ones, so he can better distinguish between the balls and the bars.
But as well possible his brain isn’t yet conditioned to this kind of generalization and abstraction.

Maybe this will do it.

Now we see it! Or is that just a different picture.
To conclude …
We have no idea what the world really looks like. Our brains, man.

Oh, and this.
