Sajid Javid said he won’t ‘allow’ another Scottish referendum and Scottish Twitter’s response was brutal
Home secretary and Tory leadership wannabe Sajid Javid has attracted a bit of unfortunate attention for himself after he said he wouldn’t ‘allow’ a second Scottish independence referendum.
It wasn’t just what he said that got backs up, it was the way he said it.
If I become PM, I won’t allow a second Scottish independence referendum. People stated views clearly in 2014, so there should be no second vote. Nicola Sturgeon should spend more time improving public services in Scotland, and less time grandstanding https://t.co/sxKKMdXX2S

And if there’s one thing you don’t mess with on Twitter, it’s Scottish Twitter. Here are our favourite of the takedowns that followed.
1.
Don’t worry about it. You won’t become PM. Look at who is against you. As utterly ludicrous as it seems, even you aren’t quite big enough of a total fucking twat yet. https://t.co/2HzDgiOAqG

Nothing Scots love better than an English Tory telling us what we can and cannot do. Imagine if the EU had told you you couldn’t hold your referendum?

I honestly don’t think you need to stress yourself about being PM hon https://t.co/Ze4cEDTqzH

Memo to Tory leadership candidates: A majority of Scots – independence supporters and opponents alike – will not accept being told by a Tory PM that we are not ‘allowed’ to choose our own future (& PS, you have a lot to learn about good public service delivery from @theSNP gov) https://t.co/khEIWdmvap

You have about as much authority as a piece and jam

He won't allow. ALLOW. Scotland is a devolved nation. A member of a union along with three other nations. It is not a colonised state. No matter how much the UK Govt behaves as if it is one. https://t.co/xSu5BXWzB3

imagine that sentence with any other country’s name in it except Scotland – it’s a ridiculous notion that our future would be decided by the country next door. #indyref2
