A barista mansplained pregnancy to a mum-to-be and it went as well as you’d expect
It’s 2019 and people know a lot of stuff because of the internet; of course, much of it is about memes and vlogger spats, but there are also experts on medical matters around every corner. One pregnant coffee drinker got the full force of her male barista’s medical knowledge when she tried to buy a caramel macchiato in Starbucks.
Comedian Tiff Stevenson was there to witness the exchange.
Unbelievable bit of womb bothering in Starbucks at services . A pregnant woman got her Caramel Macchiato and the guy behind the counter said
‘Oh , it’s for you . Do you want me to make a decaf?’
She said ‘No, thanks’
Him ‘No I should because caffeine is bad for the baby’

Her ‘It’s fine I have one a day’
Him ‘But…you shouldn’t’
Me *almost spontaneously combusting* ‘Are you a man , telling a woman what she should and shouldn’t have during a pregnancy?
Then he says
‘Oh just because it’s bad for the baby so that’s why I’m saying it’

Me ‘Unbelievable. Stop it’
Then he continues to try and justify policing a complete stranger for 5 minutes. He was maybe 30 years old max.
Are they also doing Ob/Gyn training at Starbucks these days?

The whole thing didn’t go down any better with the forthright people of Twitter than it had in the shop, and this is what they had to say about the Mansplainer-in-Chief.

‘Blessed be the fruit’ ‘Under his eye’ etc springs to kind! Wonder if he also lectures people buying their cakes and pastries ? 🙄

In spite of it being a clearly ridiculous thing to do, mansplaining pregnancy seems to be “a thing”.

Happened to me in @CosyLeicester. Ordering a glass of champagne (just the one I might add). It was my baby shower. And the guy was no more than 30. I was astounded. Nothing like a man attempting to shame a heavily pregnant woman in front of her friends and co-workers

#tbt that time a dude tried to refuse to sell me salami from the deli counter when I was pregnant https://t.co/ccsVgFnXXf

Waiter once told me I couldn’t have a dish that had avocado in it because I was pregnant. Was quite adamant about it. Extraordinary combination of ignorance and arrogance

This EXACT SAME THING happened at my local @Starbucks , was with my pregnant friend, barista absolutely REFUSED to make her a caffeinated drink, even when she said she only has one a day. Ended up calling corporate because manager refused to serve it as well. Such bs
