Ann Widdecombe said that Brexit won’t be as bad as WWII – the only 9 owns you need to read
We’re not sure what it is about Brexiters and their obsession with the war, but they keep insisting that Britain can deal with Brexit because it handled fighting the Nazis so marvellously, albeit by dying in large numbers and going hungry.
The latest Eurosceptic to spout this trope is the newest representative of Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party, former-Tory, Ann Widdecombe. At 71, she wasn’t even born when World War II ended, but that didn’t stop her from using it as a bizarrely bleak defence of leaving the EU.
Brexit Party's Ann Widdecombe claims a no-deal Brexit would be "nothing compared to the sacrifice" made in WW2 "to ensure Britain's freedom" #r4today https://t.co/Sbt7wNbmAk

The thing is, no one voted for World War II, it happened because of the rise of Hitler. No one voted for the Blitz, no one voted for the upheavals caused by war. These things were accepted as part of what happened, but hardly embraced. Brexit is somewhat different https://t.co/HZKTI5XdHH

.@BBCr4today #AnnWiddecombe: WW2 was fought for freedom from *fascism*! You are standing *for* fascism. It’s like saying to Hitler, “no need to bomb us out, have the keys to granny’s front door”. #r4today #StopBrexit

Professor of Journalism, Christian Christensen, rightly asked this question.
