Trump said mothers and doctors ‘execute babies’ and this nurse’s response was perfect and incredibly moving
You might have seen the speech given by Donald Trump in which he suggests babies are being ‘executed’ by mothers and doctors.
Yes, you read that right, the so-called president’s contribution to the abortion debate that is raging across America right now.
"The baby is born, the mother meets w/the doctor. They take care of the baby. They wrap the baby beautifully. Then the doctor and mother determine whether or not they will execute the baby."
How is this man's mental state not a National Emergency right now? pic.twitter.com/uq2yPoxH3o

It prompted no end of rebukes, as you might imagine.
Trump has sunk to a low I did not think he could reach. THis is the most vile, despicable lie he has ever told. Who are these morons in his crowd who eat up this lie? @brithume @foxnews you are enablers of this madness. @VP shame on you for allowing this calumny.

When you realize that he is using stories of infant palliative care to rile up hate, it just makes this even more heart wrenching.

He doesn't say this because he's crazy, he says it, knowing that it's false, because it is a well researched tool he uses to manipulate a certain percentage of people who are most susceptible. It's what criminals, dictators, autocrats and others use to keep people in line.

But this response might have been the best, a nurse called Julia Pulver who set Trump straight with this incredibly moving thread.
1.
Thread: As a NICU nurse, I served on the “Bereavement Team.” We were a special team of Nurses tough enough to help new parents go through the worst day of their lives. Parents of babies who had fought so hard for their tiny little lives and weren’t going to make it… 1/ https://t.co/2ZzDAEziyi

And parents of babies who, after they were born, and wouldn’t have their moms body keeping them alive, would die rather quickly. As these small bodies were failing, it was our job to be there with the parents at every step, give them support, and do our best to make some …/2

Memories of their precious babies that could help easy their impending and overwhelming grief. When heroic measures failed or a baby without a brain or working lungs or heart was born, we knew the end was near, and we encouraged the parents to be present in these finals moments/3

4.
We placed the babies skin to skin with mom and placed a blanket over them both. We lowered the lights and quieted the room. We had as much or as little family and the parents wanted in the room. We sang songs, we prayed, we hugged, we swayed… and we all cried. 4/

I cried until my throat burned for this family who has just had to endure the unthinkable. We were in the moment with those families. We took pictures, even for the ones who were too traumatized to think they’d ever want to see them, just in case they did. We made footprints 5/

We put a lock of hair into a ribbon. We measured the babies length and marked it on a tape measure. We made special tiny white gowns and hats for our angels. We created a memory box for these families who were losing their child that day. 6/

7.
So yes, there are those in hospitals who are around infants who pass: they are the Bereavement Teams & they provide the equivalent of neonatal hospice to families who are living through absolute Hell. Babies and children die, it’s a sad part of life. But no one, absolutely /7

8.
NO ONE ever, in any hospital, nor any mother who has just given birth, is conspiring with a doctor on whether or not to commit infanticide. This is perhaps one of the sickest accusations levied by this deranged dictator yet. Don’t believe a word he says about anything important//

And just a few of the things people said about it.
Thank you for this. My heart breaks for the parents who have been through this agony who are now having their wounds ripped open again for the GOP to score political points by grossly lying about what they’ve gone through.

As a dad of a 24-weeker who was in the NICU for 4.5 months, thank you dearly for the work you do

As a labor and delivery nurse this was part of my job as well. I’m not real sentimental about nursing, but this latest bit of dangerous lunacy has enraged me. Thank you for this thread.

Shame the so-called president won’t read it.
