Watch David Lammy’s takedown of an LBC caller who claimed Donald Trump isn’t racist

David Lammy frequently talks and tweets about the frightening rise of racism in society, particularly noticeable since the Brexit vote on this side of the Atlantic and the success of Donald Trump’s political career on the other.

After he opened a discussion on LBC on whether Donald Trump should be given a state visit, a caller named Tim took David to task over referring to the President as “racist”.

In spite of hearing examples including Donald Trump’s reactions to the Charlottesville marchers and the London Bridge attack, Tim insisted there was no evidence for the claim.

“I don’t know whether you recall the way he responded after the London Bridge horrible terrorist attack where those horrible knife-wielding maniacs set upon innocent people and the world leaders supported London and Sadiq Khan.

The MP for Tottenham reminded him:

The only individual to spew out venom was Donald Trump, who decided it was appropriate to support a Britain First video that was deeply Islamophobic.

Tim changed tack to insist that Trump deserves a visit because he’s the President of the USA, but had no real argument when faced with the fact that Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter and George Bush weren’t given that honour.

“You don’t automatically give a President a state visit, you do it if you are communicating something powerful about the nature of his presidency and you want to applaud it!”

Time to break out the Trump Baby.
