In honour of Ann Widdecombe’s return to politics – the wonderful Victoria Wood’s hilarious parody

As Ann Widdecombe returns to frontline politics at the tender age of 71, we’re taking it as an excuse to share this piece of musical-comedy genius from the much-missed Victoria Wood – not that we ever need an excuse to post any of her work.

The musical extravaganza was the finale of Victoria’s Christmas Special in 2000, when Ms Widdecombe was the Home Secretary, and it featured the lyrics:

“Who’s the girl that gets us giddy? Eyes so blue and shoes so diddy.
Who’s our favourite Tory biddy? (Hmm)
Give me A-N-N and E. W-I and double D. E-C-O-M-B-E spells Widdecombe.”

It simply doesn’t scan with “Brexit Party” subbed in. Perhaps it’s a sign.
