There was a “wine and eggs” diet in the 70s and it did NOT look healthy

The diet industry is a multi-billion pound money-maker for the people with the right investments, with slimming clubs, diet ranges, special shakes and pills. The incidence of obesity in the western world has risen in tandem with the growth of diet products, so maybe a little more tandem and a little less shake might be helpful. Back in the 1970s, when people were prepared to go out in waistcoats they’d crocheted themselves, Vogue magazine published a diet based on eating eggs and drinking wine – and this is it.

It seems like a recipe for drunken constipation. Shared on Reddit by someone called Jtaimelafolie, the predicted weight loss is 5lbs in three days, but that’s presumably if the dieter doesn’t get so drunk they forget to eat the eggs, which are presumably important to the plan. Redditors had some thoughts on the matter.

One cunning person had an idea for making the diet more enjoyable.

Always drink responsibly. Or don’t – I’m not the boss of you.
