Someone left a jar of bees in this bookshop and it got people really buzzing – our favourite replies
Well here’s something that doesn’t happen in a bookshop every day. Staff at the London Review Bookshop put out an urgent appeal on Twitter after a chap came into the shop and left something behind. Something not entirely unimportant.
if you were or are the friendly gent (blue coat) who was in the shop half an hour ago and left a big jar of bees on the table in the poetry section, please come back and reclaim your jar of bees. if you aren't, please rt until we find him #FindTheBeeGent

It was then followed by this clarification …
charlie says they’re too large to be bees but i’ve started the hashtag now so it’s too late to change it

… which rather set the tone for the replies which were to follow, which were inventive, funny, and often both at the same time.

In London Town,
A place afar
There was a gent
Who had a jar
Of bees or wasps-
I cannot say-
The problem is
He went awayHe went away
But they did not
And now a bookstore
Has a plot
Without an end
And lacking covers,
But charming all
Good bookstore lovers.

In London, the home of the Bard,
Was orphaned a swarm of bees (jarred).
Though often in bonnets,
These bees were near sonnets,
Which critics found quite avant-garde.https://t.co/Ay4pF9sbZw— Liberal Limericks (@Libericks) March 16, 2019

The object containing their buzz
Was oxymoronic, because
It both was a jar
And wasn’t ajar,
And thus, what it wasn’t, it was.https://t.co/bX5MSL8MLS— Liberal Limericks (@Libericks) March 16, 2019

I left a jar there but it was my beetles wearing their stripey jumpers. And my coat is ‘porpoise’ coloured. I hope you find the correct gent. #FindTheBeeGent
