It’s Pancake, or Shrove, Tuesday today – technically, a day in the Christian calendar when the faithful prepare for tomorrow’s start of Lent by having one last chance to pig out and to bring to mind their sins – including gluttony, of course. In secular society, it’s a day to push plastic lemons and nutty chocolate spread on harassed shoppers, whilst attempting the Guiness World Record for making “tosser” jokes and ruining your kitchen ceiling with greasy splodges.
