Danny Baker can’t get his head round the Queen biopic and some people had a sheer heart attack
The critics hated it but audiences loved it and now Queen biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, is up for a bucket load of Oscars later this month.
But one man can’t let it lie, and that man is Danny Baker who prompted quite the debate on Twitter after he said this.
How Queen got a film made about them is still astounding to me. If Bryan Ferry had died would there be a Roxy film? If Ian Hunter went would we have a Mott film? Plant with Zeppelin? All these groups are superior to Queen and yet here we are.

And when we say ‘debate’, well, here’s a flavour of the lively to and fro that followed.

No great Queen fan Danny, but you’re talking bollocks.
He was an incredible front man and deserves recognition as such— Sam Turner (@STurnerTipster) 16 February 2019

Regardless of anyones views on the quality of the band or the movie, the commercial success of the film proves there was an enormous audience for it.

Yes, why would anyone be interested in the story of an immigrant from a deeply conservative religious family, a conflicted, bisexual man of colour in the mostly-macho & white world of rock, who became one of the best-selling artists ever & struggled to find personal happiness? 🙄

The story of Bryan Ferry, who Jerry Hall dumped for being a bore (and she later married Rupert Murdock, FFS) and who raised a reactionary fox-hunting prick of a son, would obviously be way more interesting.

When you had a chat show you described Hootie and the Blowfish as the best band since the Beatles,so I’ll not give your opinions on music much credence.

with you all the way – fight this one ever day in Brazil.
Believe me, it’s one man against 200 million – many times I’m stopped on the street by people with puzzled expressions saying ‘why don’t you like Queen?’
Cos they were a crock of nonsense— Tim Vickery (@Tim_Vickery) 16 February 2019
