This pupil was in a school lockdown and the reason she wrote on her arm will break your heart
School shootings have become a sad fact of life in the US, where 113 people were killed or injured last year, the highest on record.
But the raw statistics can only tell you so much. It’s only the first hand stories that bring home what this means for the day to day reality of going to school in the US.
We mention this because someone called Allison Berkowitz shared what happened when a school went into a genuine – and terrifying – lockdown because of a bomb scare.
"So my kids school had a genuine lock-down today… I say to her, why did you write that on your arm? She says, 'in case the bad guy got to us and I got killed, you and daddy would know that I love you,' and she started to cry." -Shelley Harrison Reed pic.twitter.com/blKjrzIfJX

And here is what the mum wrote about it on Facebook.
Just unbelievable stuff, and these responses put it better than we ever could.
I’m so sorry. Here in the UK I send my kids off to school every single day & zero percent of my brain is wondering if this will be the day they are shot. They have never had an active shooter drill or needed a bulletproof backpack.
Freedom comes in more than one flavour, America

I am so sorry. That must have been terrifying for all of you.

Been in an actual lockdown when I worked for an elementary school as a paraprofessional in special ed. Very scary. It was a domestic dispute and gunfire down the street from the school so it was for a good reason but still terrifying.

Now I’m crying. No child should have to go through that. 😕

Dear god. Why do are children have to live in fear of going to school and never seeing their parents again. This is complete insanity!
