Author Harriet Evans calling out a newspaper’s everyday sexism is a thing of beauty
It can sometimes seem as though newspapers are more interested in telling us people’s ages than they are in getting to the heart of the story, particularly if the people in question are women. Best-selling author, Harriet Evans, spotted one particularly annoying example of this everyday sexism, and put it right.
Hi @EveningStandard ! You gave the age of every woman in your Grammys piece but not the 2 men, so I added them for you! Childish Gambino is 35, Drake is 32 & your editor George Osborne is, amongst many other things, 47! Thanks for the @EverydaySexism ! Keep us on our toes! pic.twitter.com/12i7p8FNdb

She followed it up with a direct appeal to the newspaper’s famous editor.
@George_Osborne is this one of your days for editing the Standard? If it is🖕🙏 & maybe you could get back to me. Ta!

She has yet to receive a response from him, but has plenty from other people – mostly positive.
This is so damn true and so annoying.
Thank you, @HarrietEvans https://t.co/lhtz8eNxEi

Predictably, as a woman commenting on sexism on the internet, there were men waiting to put her right.
Cyrus and Perry didn’t get age checked. And considering it’s an article which lists 9 amazing women (incl Dua Lipa), and shoehorns in 2 men at the end, I imagine it’s oversight on how it looks rather a great example of Everyday Sexism.

If you had offered me £10,000 and asked me to find something offensive about that article I still wouldn’t t have found that. You have also probably wasted half a day already and replying to tweets. Madness!

Not all reactions were about the everyday sexism.
George Osborne is only 47???? Bloody hell he looks rough as! 😵 #knockmedownwithafeather

Since getting the tweet from Harriet, he’s probably developed a few more worry lines.
