This dad’s personal ad ‘looking for a son-in-law’ went viral because it’s so unusual and begs lots of questions
Every so often you come across a personal ad in a newspaper which is just so very strange it makes you almost want to reply just to work out what the hell it all means.
This is one of those ads, shared on Twitter by Yvette Shapiro and, well, here goes …
Absolutely the strangest personal ad I’ve ever seen in @BelTel
Some kind of joke? pic.twitter.com/42Smsj2KbL— Yvette Shapiro (@yvetteshapiro) February 7, 2019
And all of these people appeared to agree.
“… sown his wild oaks”? Most own a forest??

Think this strange ad needed a bit of grammar & spelling correction before it was published

It’s perfect as is. A post-modern stream of consciousness poem evoking an absurd rural dystopia in the style of Flann O’Brien.

Yes! A glimpse into the “our wee country” psyche.

Free to a good home, as long as it’s next door to “her friendly dad”.

The Guardian’s film critic Peter Bradshaw had a question.
I'm trying to think which actor should play this guy in the film version https://t.co/JdP56IErQl

Brendan Gleeson

Colm Meany
Or more likely, John Goodman with a dodgy accent
— Ben Davies (@ben_benjamin3) February 7, 2019
Probably not Liam Neeson any more
