Jacob Rees-Mogg doing ‘Common People’ is the cover version we didn’t know we needed
It’s quite astonishing that Jacob Rees-Mogg has taken a job that requires him to speak to the plebeians, given that he’s a multi-millionaire who’s posher than the Queen. The funny people over at JOE have hilariously exploited his poshness and his inextricable link with the dodgy Leave campaign to create a brilliant new version of Pulp’s hit song “Common People”.
It’s catchy, isn’t it? It’s either the best or the worst earworm you’ll have today. When JOE shared the link on Twitter, the common people – that’s all of us, by the way – weren’t sure whether it was brilliant or a terrible idea.
The problem with Mogg is that if you satirise the nincompoop you only reinforce the brand. And I know this from bitter experience. It's an outstanding bit of work though https://t.co/srUC00ZVA7

Superb. Although probably an insult to Sir Jarvis to be associated with this Mugg. https://t.co/MDZhufnfLV

Technically brilliant video – with deeply depressing message. https://t.co/nkR2fmKceg

Writer Christopher Allen perfectly summed it up with this comment,
This is where genius meets horror. https://t.co/BptYYshST8
