This historian called out billionaires at Davos over tax avoidance and he’s everyone’s hero right now
A Dutch historian called Rutger Bregman has gone viral after he used a session at the Davos World Economic Forum to take billionaires to task for not paying tax.
Bregman started off by noting how 1,500 people had travelled by private jet to listen to David Attenborough warn about climate change.
Then he really warmed to his theme.
“I hear people talking the language of participation, justice, equality and transparency but almost no one raises the real issue of tax avoidance, right? And of the rich just not paying their fair share.
“It feels like I’m at a firefighters conference and no one’s allowed to speak about water.”

This is so brilliant. Can't agree more. Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Where can we vote for him?
Here’s the long version of what I tried to make clear in Davos. Most wealth is not created at the top, but merely devoured there. https://t.co/iSZlcJssaa #wef19
