Jonathan Agnew told Gary Lineker to stop talking about Brexit. It didn’t end well
The BBC’s cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew isn’t happy that his corporation colleague Gary Lineker keeps banging on about Brexit on Twitter.
So much so that he was moved to tell him this.
@GaryLineker Gary. You are the face of BBC Sport. Please observe BBC editorial guidelines and keep your political views, whatever they are and whatever the subject, to yourself.
I’d be sacked if I followed your example. Thanks.

Probably Agnew was thinking of recent Lineker tweets like this one.

Or this one (another classic of its type).

Except, as you’d expect, the Match of the Day man was having none of it.
Jonathan, I’m the face of my own Twitter account. I’ll continue to tweet what I like and if folk disagree with me then so be it. Thank you so much for your concern, which, I imagine, wouldn’t be a concern at all if you agreed with me. 👍🏻

To which Agnew replied …

Except if he thought that was the end of it, it wasn’t.
Ok. View is overwhelmingly keep going Gary! You can stop the aggro now… @GaryLineker

That suggests to me @aggerscricket that you disagree, hence exposing your own political opinions. Keep up the good work @GaryLineker. Someone has to with this shambles running our country

As I have repeatedly stated I voted remain. We lost. https://t.co/2daXnp8tTN

Sad to see @Aggerscricket come out as a Brexiteer! Too much time with Boycott? I think it’s great that @GaryLineker gives a toss what happens in the most important political issue for a generation. https://t.co/ru9F2tCvor

Even sadder that an MP can’t be bothered to look a few minutes down my timeline. I voted remain. https://t.co/07cndzWMqm

It’s just not cricket.
